A Rare Isles of Shoals Tour!

  • Rye, NH, 03870 United States (map)

As we celebrate Rye’s 400th, we ask you one question — want to see where it all began?

Then join us – this summer - on either

·       Thursday, July 6, or

·       Thursday, August 3,

for a rare opportunity to visit both historic Star and Appledore Islands on the same tour!

Sponsored by The Inn at Rye Place, this special, day-long tour was created by the Rye400 Committee in cooperation with the University of NH’s Shoals Marine Laboratory and the Star Island Corporation. This trip IS NOT available commercially from any of the local harbors . Only Star Island is typically accessible for day trips; Appledore island is highly restricted and only accessible through a limited arrangements with the Shoals Marine Lab.

Be one of the few to hop aboard the Shining Star, leaving from Rye Harbor at 9:00 a.m. On our way out to the islands, a professional guide will engage us in a relaxing narration of fascinating lore and legends of the Isles. The boat will navigate around all of the islands where you will experience environmentally protected areas for the seals. Our first stop, for about an hour,  is Appledore Island, home of poet Celia Thaxter, where a member of the Shoals Marine Lab will take us on a walking history tour.  Then, back on the boat to visit Star Island, where another expert will provide a guided tour. We’ll be here for about three hours before we head back to Rye for a 4:00 p.m.landing.

Thanks to our sponsor the cost is a reduced $75.00 per person for this full-day Rye400 experience. The tour will take place rain or shine. Come prepared by wearing comfortable clothing/shoes, bringing your lunch and plenty of water. There is also a limited lunch menu available in the Oceanic Hotel’s snack bar on Star Island.
