Traditional Native American historian/educator/storyteller Anne Jennison, presents the “Impact of More Than 500 Years of Colonization on the Abenaki-Wabanaki Peoples of the Northeast.”

Her talk focuses on the history of these Indigenous peoples, the first on the North American continent to interact with and be profoundly impacted by European colonization.

The story of both Abenaki survival and cultural revitalization is compelling and important in understanding the all-encompassing history of our Seacoast community.

The presenter:

Anne Jennison (of European and Abenaki heritage) is a traditional

Native American storyteller and historian. With Masters Degrees in both Storytelling and History - and over 30 years of experience giving presentations to audiences of all ages, Anne also brings a wealth of cultural and historical knowledge to enrich her retelling of timeless Northeast Woodlands Native American stories and her presentations on Abenaki/Wabanaki history.

Anne is the current Chair of the NH Commission on Native American Affairs, a member of the Indigenous NH Collaborative Collective, and an affiliate faculty member for the UNH Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) Minor. She was also a co-creator of the permanent "People of the Dawnland" interpretive exhibit about the Abenaki/Wabanaki peoples at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH and continues to be an active consultant for the museum's growing Abenaki Heritage Initiative.
